Packing for NYC

It's been an intense week for the weather here on the East Coast, we've had snow blizzards and below freezing conditions! I live in slightly more South in DC, so it's been bad but bareable.
I am however off to New York this week for work and the entire city had been shut down!
So you can see where packing might be a bit of a conundrum! However Three things that have become essential in my wardrobe through winter are, a good pair of leather boots, for walking through snow and rain, a hat to keep my head warm and my keep my long curly hair in check and a pair of well fitted jeans, to keep my legs warm!
When it comes to packing for NYC, you want to stay warm but still stylish, I will be staying in Manhattan after all....

Here are a few of my business trip wardrobe essentials

I'm back

Hello :-)
It's been a while, but it's been quite the year! For a little while I was living in Paris and now I'm living in America and enjoying a new adventure (see my other blog 'One Small Step For Zoë' here)

I'll be concentrating on more styling ideas and inspiration, so stay tuned.....
Much love

DIY Brocade Clutch

Brocade prints and Jacquard fabrics are very fashionable this season, I was really inspired by the 'For Love and Lemons' 2012 look book, you can see it here and here
So I went to my local fabric shop to see what they had and decided to make a clutch bag, well two in fact because i couldn't decide on which fabric i wanted! A clutch is easy to make and can go great with a classic black outfit, or you can clash it with other prints, very A/W 2012!

 What you'll need:
 * Fabric
 * Zip
 * Thread
 * Pins
 * Scissors
 * Sewing machine

1.  Firstly choose your fabric. When I initially chose this fabric it was nice but i preferred the underneath side, so I just flipped it!

2.  Cut your fabric to your desired size but make sure your zip is the same size

3.  Pin the zip (right side facing down) to the top edge of the fabric and sew it

4. The edge of the fabric should now be hidden, you can also sew a stitch across the top to keep the zip in place but that's optional

5.  Turn the fabric inside out and sew the zip to the other side of the fabric

6.  Sew down the each side of the fabric

7.  Turn the inside out and making sure you've pushed through all the corners, then iron

Ta da!.... you now have a lux clutch bag, perfect for autumn
I also made my second one smaller, perfect for a make up bag

So join the brocade brigade!

Vivienne Westwood

Topshop Unique

A round up of my favourite shows from London Fashion Week SS13, What i love about the summer preview shows and summer in general are all the prints! I'm a huge fan of print, as a former textile student, it's the first thing i look for and i wasn't disappointed.
Matthew Williamson had his signature cascade of bright colours, with a bohemian traveller feel, while Vivienne Westwood's show was a homage to ladylike glamour from a bygone era. Her models were made up to look like they'd just walked out of a piece of Andy Warhol art!
Topshop Unique's show was simple monochrome with flashes of yellow, blue and pale pink. With Vogues former stylist Kate Phelin at the helm, you knew it was gonna be a good show.
Maybe I'll add a few pieces to my birthday wish list, what do you reckon? wishful thinking.....
